I Saloni Milan - Kasthall

Kasthall has been designing and manufacturing unique woven and hand tufted rugs and carpets since 1889. Since its foundation the company has been operating from its own factory in Kinna, an area rich in textile manufacturing history in the west of Sweden. This is where we still make all our woven and hand tufted rugs today. Over the years, Kasthall has grown to become one of the leading international designers and manufacturers of rugs. Today the company is represented in more than 30 countries around the world.


Dag and Natt
design: Petra Lundblad-Fridén

Our designer Petra Lundblad-Fridén’s passion for experimenting with different images and colours, and using layers to create new expressions, has resulted in this printed pattern. It is bold yet discreet, fateful and dreamlike at the same time. Everyone interprets the pattern differently. Perhaps the sun is breaking through the clouds after rain, or rolling waves are in contrast to a dark sky, or trees and bushes are thrashing in the wind.

The four colour combinations have names reflecting the weather and sky phenomena: Haze, Thunder, Summer Dawn and Autumn Dusk. The pattern is printed on our woven rug Häggå in pure wool.


Embroidery
design: Petra Lundblad-Fridén

Embroidery is an exclusive hand tufted rug in pure wool with an imaginative pattern. By playing with different textures of yarn – our thick, luxurious-quality Classic combined with our beautiful Tekla – Petra Lundblad-Fridén, our designer, created a pattern that is reminiscent of an embroidery that is in progress. The pattern is a bit mystical, so you feel you lose track of the stitches as your eye looks for regularity in the irregular. It is up to the observer to complete the image.

Embroidery is available in five colour combinations, all of them selected to heighten the mysterious character of the rug.


Fading
design: Petra Lundblad-Fridén

Fading is a hand tufted rug in wool and linen. The natural materials in the rug and the two yarn colours combine to create a highly expressive and detailed pattern. The shading and directional shifts in the pattern are inspired by the feeling of things changing over time, shifting in tone and ebbing away.

With a little imagination, you may see a landscape outlined in the gossamer pattern at the base of the rug. It may be a field in autumn, falling leaves – stillness. Fading is available in four different colour combinations.


Gry
design: Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg

 
Gry is a hand tufted rug of wool and linen. Mathias, one of our talented hand tufters, developed this new texture from existing ones, so we decided to name the rug after his daughter Gry.  

Gry has a soft shimmering and robust surface with a fresh, vibrant expression. The mixture of wool and linen in different nuances gives this rug its unique structure and lustre. The collection comes in a wide palette that suits many settings.

Choose your favourite among ten different colour combinations inspired by elements of nature.


Happy
design: Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg

Happy is a woven rug of wool and linen, colourful and charismatic, with stripes that both harmonise and contrast. A charming relative to our rug Doris, the name Happy comes from the lovely sensation you get when you walk on it. Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, our chief designer, named the five different colour combinations after feelings and life situations that she likes: Passion, Summer Holiday, Winter Night, Potato Digging and Harmony.  

 
Happy is a fantastic piece of handicraft. All the colour and yarn changes are painstaking work that requires patience and great professional skill from the Kasthall weavers.


Marocco
design: Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg

Marocco’s pattern takes its inspiration from North Africa while the texture itself is firmly rooted in our woven bouclé rug family. Imagine the scent of spices and milling markets or a cup of mint tea in a
Bedouin tent.

The meeting between Scandinavian simplicity and oriental richness creates a sublime rug. Made from wool and linen, the eight colour combinations are inspired by spices: salt, pepper, aniseed, vanilla, cardamom, cayenne, spearmint and ginger.

I Saloni Milan - Italamp

For the 2011 edition of Euroluce, Italamp focused on strong and dynamic creative design, paying particular attention to technological innovation related to materials and manufacturing processes.

Odette Odile

design: Edward van Vliet

Designed by Edward van Vliet, Odette Odile is a sophisticated yet simple light object. This lamp introduces a new concept of modular lighting for Italamp by combining glass, ceramic, crystal, leather and steel elements.

Chips
design: Monica Graffeo

In designing Chips, Monica Graffeo sought to “de-materialize objects in order to use as less material as possible to produce them.” As a result, the Chips floor and suspension lamps are elegant pieces that consist simply of overlapping layers of hi-tech fabric. Chips is offered in several color combinations and sizes.

Lola

design: Stefano Traverso

Lola by Stefano Traverso is a colorful and playful collection of suspension, wall and table lamps, with a vintage feel. These lamps are available in a variety of colors, and the Royale version of the lamp is embellished with Swarovski crystals.

Flamingo
design: Stephano Traverso

Flamingo is the new table lamp designed by Stefano Traverso. The solid concrete base contrasts with the slender metal stem and adjustable diffuser. It is available in various colors.

I Saloni Milan - Tacchini

The following are the new designs presented by Tacchini in Milan.


T-CHAIR  
by Barazzuol / Malisan

T-Chair takes its name from the T of Tacchini which, incidentally, is also a distinguishing feature of the back of the chair. T-Chair is the result of the desire to make a chair as simple as its design sketch. The unbroken penciled line is transformed into the coated and bent iron frame with a rectangular profile. Discretely attached to this frame are the soft shapes of the seat and back made in wood or upholstery for comfortable seating. The T-Chair is available in a variety of colors and fabrics.

CRYSTAL
by Pearson Lloyd

The Crystal collection of sofas and armchairs reflects smart and absolute simplicity.

The Crystal collection consists of a 2 or 3 seater sofa and two armchairs: one is square-shaped, while the other one is round-shaped and snug throughout with a round cushion in the middle.

For each piece in this collection, a lifting effect is created through the beveled base.

FIXIE

The main feature of the Fixie stool is its tubular structure, which gives this piece a sculptural quality. However, the aesthetic quality of this stool does not hide its functionality: the stool is adjustable in height and revolves 360 degrees. Fixie is available in a variety of bright colors.

HIGHLIFE

Simplicity and dynamism are the key feature of the Highlife series. Each piece is available in different heights, and the use of additional cushions enriches this new collection in terms of elegance, comfort and versatility.

A variety of compositions are possible which allow you to create customized matches and ideal spaces to work, chat or relax.

DRESSED

New to the Dressed collection, this small revolving armchair features the same padded upholstered seating as the other models in the collection. Its modest size makes the Dressed armchair suitable for the home or office.

CLEAR by Christophe Pillet

The new Clear chair by Christophe Pillet for Tacchini is characterized by its simple lines and stacking wooden frame.

Just like a “little black dress”, the Clear chair is at ease in any setting, whether at the home or office, or in a commercial or hospitality setting.

I Saloni Milan - B&B Italia

“Please, take your seat”:

is the greeting with which B&B Italia announces its new product launches for 2011. Seating, which has always been a particularly strong part of the brand, is the focus of its creative work this year with each product bearing the mark of its designer. For 2011, the work of internationally renowned designers Antonio Citterio and Patricia Urquiola is joined by products from Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, who will be presenting their second designs for B&B Italia.

Working together with B&B Italia’s Research and Development Centre, whose excellence is widely acknowledged, all the designers achieved impressive results, dedicating themselves to an often long and complex development process. The new chairs are functional objects, aesthetically expressive with attention to detail, industrially produced and designed to last the test of time.

Beverly 

by Antonio Citterio

is an extremely elegant armchair of a balanced modernity that enables it to interact with diverse styles and settings. It is contoured by a folding frame in aluminium alloy with a bright brushed or black chrome finish. It is also available in a variety of covers that enable alternative interpretations: from leather for a more classic version to cotton fabrics with leather profiles or technical fabrics that enliven it with bright colours. Two heights are available for the backrest, guaranteeing customised comfort.

Husk 

by Patricia Urquiola

A moulded plastic shell and a series of soft cushions: these are the basic elements of the Husk armchair. A celebration of softness, Husk is the result of a long development process to create a versatile armchair that is both unique in its own right and able to complement even the most classic sofas. Three types of cushions are available: standard, large and very large or with a headrest, while the body support can be either fixed or rotating.

A ottoman footrest is also available. Playing on the wide range of colours and finishes of the body (in four-toned recycled plastic), the support (in natural oak or grey or black lacquered wood) and covers (numerous types of leather or fabric), Husk can radically change its appearance, from a single colour to an extremely bright or subtly elegant style. With this project, B&B Italia embraces the theme of ecology by using both recycled and recyclable materials, and components that can be fully disassembled in future - thus simplifying the recycling process and reducing the environmental impact.

Doyl

The seating theme continues with the exploration of the formal and technical development of thick leather. A simple, comfortable chair with refined details created in just one material, Doyl introduces a type of padded leather chair where the classic proportions are inverted, transforming lines that are normally concave into convex sections, and thus enhancing the perception of softness.

The designers placed great importance on graphic markings, created through continuous stitching on both the fronts and backs of the chair which correspond to the cutting lines and junctions of the thick leather. The leather is folded, curved and turned inside out, but never cut. The padding adds surprising comfort for a leather chair, while alternative technical materials offer brightly coloured variations.

Landscape, Ray, Surface, Tufty-Too

This year, a series of designs of undisputed success are presented at the Salone’s fiftieth edition with new versions alongside the old. Their permanence on the market is an affirmation of success and popularity from the public which prompted new versions and finishes of these products. Further, the new editions are in perfect harmony with the company’s dedication to continuously offering new options of enhanced comfort and function.

Ten years since its debut and no less popular, Landscape by Jeffrey Bernett offers a sensation of movement with its lithe, airy lines. A new rocking base transforms it into the most modern of rocking chairs, while a cushioned seat with a three-dimensional surface, designed by Kvadrat for B&B Italia in seven colour variations (mustard yellow, purple, yellow, beige, sage green, orange and dark brown) enhances its comfort.

Ray, the seating system by Antonio Citterio that was met with immediate success at last year’s Milan Furniture Fair, is enhanced this year with an accompanying armchair padded like the sofa with the same blanket stitch detailing, suitable for both the home and contract sectors.

Also augmented since its debut last year, the range of low Surface tables by Vincent Van Duysen is now available in a range of strong and intense shades (15 colours in all). The tables are even more lively thanks to the option of a glossy lacquer finish for shelves and dividers.

With Tufty-Too, Patricia Urquiola recalls one of the most successful designs in her collaboration with B&B Italia and adds a new, soft and contemporary appearance to this family of sofas.

The cover, easily removable, is distinguished by matching and contrasting stitching that becomes a decorative motif. The new range of fabrics offers interesting alternatives for texture and colour that complement already existing items.

Avant-Scène in Milan

Avant-Scene was in Milan for the Saloni, the largest furniture and design show in the world. Every year, the city undergoes a radical change. It bathes in the reflected colours of quality, design, creativity, culture and high spirits.

The City of the Saloni is a huge multicoloured web of opportunities for reflection on design, the industrial world that has made it all possible, and on innovation in particular.
